China University of Petroleum (East China), located in the coastal city of Qingdao and situated in the Qingdao West Coast New Area—a state-level new district—is a national key university directly affiliated with the Ministry of Education. The University is part of China’s “Project 211” and the “985 Advantage Discipline Innovation Platform” initiative and houses a graduate school. Jointly supported by the Ministry of Education, five leading energy enterprises, and the Shandong Provincial Government, the University is a major base for cultivating high-level talent in the petroleum and petrochemical sectors. It is renowned as the “cradle of petroleum science and management professionals” and has grown into a multi-disciplinary university characterized by engineering strength and energy-focused features. The University was selected for China’s “Double First-Class” initiative in both 2017 and 2022.
The School of Economics and Management (SEM) traces its origins to the Department of Industrial Economics established in 1956 at the former Beijing Petroleum Institute. It was renamed as the School of Economics and Management in 2001. The School covers two major disciplines—Management and Economics—and offers a doctoral program and a postdoctoral research station in Management Science and Engineering, as well as an interdisciplinary doctoral program in Energy Economics and Management. The Management Science and Engineering discipline is recognized as a “Shandong Province Advantage Discipline.”
The School offers master’s programs in Management Science and Engineering, Business Administration, and Applied Economics, as well as professional degree programs including MBA, MEM, MPAcc, and MF. In December 2022, the School was awarded the BGA International Gold Accreditation. SEM currently consists of five departments: Management Science, Information Management, Strategy and Marketing, Accounting, and Economics. It offers five undergraduate majors: Engineering Management, Information Management and Information Systems, Marketing, Accounting, and Economics. Among them, three programs are designated as national first-class undergraduate programs, and two are recognized as provincial first-class programs. The School has over 130 faculty and staff members, including 111 full-time faculty, and nearly 3,000 enrolled students.
Rooted in the culturally rich region of Shandong and now flourishing in the dynamic Qingdao West Coast New Area, SEM has developed rapidly while maintaining its tradition of academic excellence. As it strives toward the goal of becoming a high-level, distinctive, and internationally recognized business school aligned with China’s development in the energy sector, the School remains committed to building a dedicated, innovative faculty team and improving the quality of education.
To accelerate discipline development and attract global talent, the School sincerely welcomes outstanding scholars from around the world to join and grow with us.
