  Established in 2018, the Institute for Energy Economics and Policy (IEEP) is a university-level research institute affiliated with China University of Petroleum (East China). Aligned with the national strategies for high-quality energy development and carbon neutrality, IEEP focuses on cutting-edge research in areas such as energy transition, energy security, technological innovation in energy systems, the new energy industry, and energy economic modeling.

  The institute currently has more than 20 full-time and part-time researchers and is committed to fostering interdisciplinary collaboration to produce high-level academic outcomes. It aims to support the generation of high-quality applied research through first-class scholarly output and to cultivate outstanding young scholars through a culture of academic excellence.

  In recent years, IEEP has undertaken more than 30 major research projects, including Key and General Projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), Key and General Projects of the National Social Science Foundation, policy consulting projects commissioned by the Shandong Provincial Government, and research projects funded by China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC). The institute has published a number of influential papers in internationally and domestically renowned journals such as JEEM, The Energy Journal, Environmental & Resource Economics, and Journal of Management Sciences in China. Over ten research achievements have received awards such as the First Prize for Outstanding Achievements in Social Sciences in Shandong Province and the Second Prize of the Outstanding Achievement Awards for Scientific Research in Higher Education (Humanities and Social Sciences). In addition, more than ten policy reports have been adopted or positively endorsed by the General Office of the CPC Central Committee, the General Office of the State Council, and relevant departments of the Shandong Provincial Party Committee, receiving approval from ministerial or provincial-level leaders.

  Facing new global trends in energy development and the strategic demands of building a strong energy nation, IEEP remains problem-oriented and focused on the research frontier. By adopting multidisciplinary approaches, the institute conducts in-depth studies on major theoretical and practical issues in energy economics and policy. It actively contributes to policy consulting and talent cultivation, provides decision-making support for high-quality energy development at both the national and provincial levels, and strives to serve industrial upgrading and the sustainable development of the economy.
