On the evening of November 20, the Employability Track of the 3rd National College Students’ Career Planning Competition—also serving as the School of Economics and Management (SEM) preliminary round—was held in Classroom Nanjiao 105. The event aimed to support students in planning their academic and career development more scientifically, strengthening employability, and clarifying future pathways.
Ms. Sheng Jinxia, Party Committee Member and Director of the Human Resources Department of Taikang Life Insurance (Branch Company), was invited as the industry commentator. Party Secretary (Deputy) Meng Zhaogang, Ms. Liu Xiao (Head of the “Zhi Xing Li” Counselor Studio and Class of 2023 counselor), Ms. Cui Yaqi (Class of 2022 counselor), and Mr. Guan Dingte (Class of 2023 counselor) attended the event and served as judges.
With the theme “Dream Big in Youth, Plan Ahead for the Future,” the competition selected seven finalists through preliminary screening. During the five-minute presentations, contestants delivered well-structured reports from five dimensions: career motivation, position understanding, competency matching, practical experience, and future planning. Grounded in China’s current context and market needs, they combined disciplinary strengths with hands-on experiences to map out clear career roadmaps, showcasing the professionalism and ambition of SEM students. The Gold Award winner, Qi Peng, identified “energy transmission and distribution strategy researcher” as his career goal, emphasizing a commitment to balancing public needs and enterprise realities, and aspiring to become a professional who contributes meaningfully to society.
In the feedback session, judges provided targeted guidance on industry trends, job requirements, and competency development. While recognizing the contestants’ clear career orientation and solid professional foundations, they also offered constructive suggestions on deepening role understanding, addressing competency gaps, and improving the feasibility and implementation pathway of career plans.
In her concluding remarks, Ms. Sheng noted the contestants’ strong performance and encouraged students to consider broader factors—such as demographic shifts, economic trends, and national policies—when making long-term career choices. Mr. Meng highlighted concerns about utilitarian mindsets and “lying flat” tendencies among some students, pointing to mismatches between labor market supply and demand. He encouraged students to present themselves proactively, set clear goals, and translate plans into sustained action.
The event concluded with an awards ceremony, granting one Gold Award, two Silver Awards, and four Bronze Awards. The competition not only provided a valuable platform for students to explore careers and demonstrate their strengths, but also helped them sharpen direction and enhance overall competencies. SEM will continue to strengthen career planning education and cultivate more versatile talents with clear career awareness and strong development potential.
