Ko Gang is a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and Deputy Director of the Xiangjiang Laboratory. He also serves as Dean of the Institute for Big Data Research at Southwestern University of Finance and Economics, Vice President of the Systems Engineering Society of China, Distinguished Changjiang Scholar (Chair Professor), recipient of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, and an expert enjoying special government allowances of the State Council.
He has led multiple major research projects, including key programs under the national social sciences agenda. He has published more than 200 papers in leading journals and conferences such as Science, Nature-indexed journals, UTD24 journals (e.g., Information Systems Research and Journal of Operations Management), and top-tier AI/ML conferences including ICML, AAAI, and KDD. His H-index is 77, with over 20,000 citations.
As the first contributor, he has received a number of provincial and ministerial awards, including the First Prize of the Ministry of Education’s Higher Education Outstanding Scientific Research Achievements Awards (Natural Sciences) and the First Prize (Humanities and Social Sciences). More than ten of his policy recommendations have received written instructions from China’s top central leaders, including President Xi Jinping.
