On August 22–23, the 4th Annual Conference of the Energy and Environmental Management Division of the Chinese Society of Management Science and Engineering was successfully held in Qingdao. Distinguished guests including Academician Chen Xiaohong, Party Secretary of Hunan University of Technology and Business; Professor Zhou Peng, Vice President of China University of Petroleum (East China); and Professor Chen Hong, Chair of the Energy and Environmental Management Division, attended and delivered opening remarks.
Jointly organized by the Energy and Environmental Management Division of the Chinese Society of Management Science and Engineering and China University of Petroleum (East China), and co-hosted by SEM and the Institute of Energy Economics and Policy, the conference was themed “New Challenges and New Opportunities: Energy and Environmental Management in the Context of Transition.” Nearly 400 experts and scholars from more than 100 universities, research institutes, and enterprises across China and abroad participated. Discussions focused on critical issues including energy transition policies and mechanisms, green production and consumption behaviors, low-carbon technological innovation and renewable energyresilience, as well as global and regional governance.
The keynote session featured six high-level reports spanning macro-level policy frameworks and micro-level technological practices, showcasing systemic innovations in the field of energy and environmental management. Highlights included:
§ Academician Chen Xiaohong’s report “Frontier Trends and Applications of the Digital Economy and AI,” presenting research progress and prospects.
§ Professor Wang Shouyang, Academician of the Academy of Sciences for the Developing World, on “Digital Currency, Stablecoins, and Issues in Resource, Energy, and Environment Research.”
§ Mr. Lan Jun, President of the China Association of National Trade Promotion, on the “One Village, One Product Program” and its role in rural revitalization and green development.
§ Professor Shi Dan, Member of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, on “Coordinating Modern Industrial and New Energy Systems.”
§ Professor Wang Zhaohua of Beijing Institute of Technology, on “Low-Carbon Transition Decisions and Scenario Simulations Driven by Multimodal Big Data.”
§ Professor Chen Xinyu of Huazhong University of Science and Technology, on “Opportunities and Challenges in Carbon Neutrality and Electricity Market Reform.”
The Major Projects Forum brought together chief experts from Zhejiang University, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Central South University, who shared insights on topics such as regional collaborative carbon reduction, AI-driven climate finance, and synergistic governance of environmental policies. The Industry–Academia Integration Forum featured five experts from institutions including Capital Normal University, Haier Biomedical, the University of Tokyo, and Fumei Green Building Technology, highlighting cutting-edge industrial practices and fostering consensus for innovation. In addition, 14 parallel forums stimulated lively discussion on themes such as green supply chain management, ESG innovation, low-carbon behavior and energy equity, regional collaboration and sustainable development, and energy big data and artificial intelligence.
The conference also hosted the Youth Forum for Outstanding Young Scholars, where 10 nationally recognized young talents in the energy and environment field presented their latest research progress, demonstrating the vitality and innovation of the next generation of scholars in advancing energy and environmental management.
