SEM Awarded BGA Gold Accreditation, Becomes First BGA-Accredited Institution in Shandong

On March 2, the School of Economics and Management (SEM) at China University of Petroleum (East China) received an official congratulatory letter from the Association of MBAs (AMBA) and the Business Graduates Association (BGA), recognizing SEM's successful attainment of BGA Gold Accreditation. With this milestone, SEM becomes the first institution in Shandong Province to achieve BGA accreditation.

From December 14 to 16, 2022, an international expert panel conducted an online accreditation visit to SEM. The review team comprised distinguished academic leaders, including Prof. Philip McLaughlin (KEDGE Business School, France), Prof. Wang Zhongming (Zhejiang University), Prof. Veneta Andonova (Dean, School of Management, Universidad de los Andes, Colombia), Prof. Zhu Wenzhong (Dean, School of Business, Guangdong University of Foreign Studies), and Prof. Elena Liquete (Former Executive Director, University of Bath School of Management, UK). The team conducted a comprehensive evaluation based on BGA standards, collecting insights from key stakeholders, including faculty, alumni, employers, and students.

BGA Online Accreditation Review in Progress

Prof. Dai Caili, Vice President of the University, delivered a welcome speech on behalf of the institution, introducing the university’s achievements in international education and reaffirming full institutional support for the BGA accreditation process, both in policy and resource allocation. Representatives from the Graduate School, Academic Affairs Office, Office of International Affairs, and the Teaching Development Center also attended the review sessions.

Prof. Zhou Peng, Vice President of the University and Dean of SEM, delivered a full English presentation on the School’s strategic development, covering strategic design, enabling systems, strategic integration of BGA principles, and ongoing improvement mechanisms. The expert panel conducted in-depth inquiries based on SEM’s strategic plan and its 14th Five-Year Development Plan.

During the model programs session, the panel held targeted discussions on the undergraduate program in Engineering Management and the MBA program. The experts offered suggestions on implementing responsible management practices, strengthening alumni engagement, and promoting lifelong learning.

Stakeholder feedback was highly positive, recognizing SEM’s achievements in research, talent development, and societal contributions, while also offering constructive recommendations for future improvement.

Since launching the accreditation journey in 2019, SEM has remained committed to leveraging international accreditation as a catalyst for quality enhancement and global engagement. Achieving the BGA Gold Accreditation marks an international endorsement of the School’s development and lays a solid foundation for building a globally recognized business school with distinctive strengths.
